Performance Skills
Assistance to the development of the various intelligences helps the child to grow into an ‘all-rounded’ person. By putting strengths into practice and simultaneously developing challenges in an emotionally safe environment, children build a good self-esteem.
One line of practice is that of ‘performing’ in front of an audience. For some children this comes naturally. A child with the learning style of a ‘Dolphin’ loves sharing and involving others. For other children this is out of their comfort zone and is a learned skill.
At school, we ‘start small and think big’. Each skill develops in small steps. Children sing a song for others in Children’s House, Primary children present a project or play their instrument for younger children, older students make full Visual Art shows and present their Art Portfolio.
Part of learning to feel comfortable in front of an audience is the Singalong and ShowTime preparations and performances that children take part in.
At Children’s House level, children sing songs in class all year round. They build a ‘Song Repertoire’ and from there, a theme is chosen to present to the families. Some props are made, small costume elements are added, of which all is in scale of the age range are prepared together. Then comes the official Singalong, and parents attend! Parents will receive a related songbook and can also sing the songs at home with the children! The following dates have been booked for this year:
